The CQLS Core Facilities operate an ABI 3730 capillary sequence machine. The DNA Sequencing service offers set-up of chain-termination reactions, processed on an ABI 3730, and electronic delivery of sequence data.

Samples are processed beginning at 9:30am each work day.  Both the order and the samples must be submitted by 9:30am to be processed that day. There is a minimum of 35 samples needed for a standard run to be processed, and orders less than 35 samples may be delayed for one- to two-days. Premium orders are guaranteed to be processed, regardless of the number of samples submitted, but must be dropped off by 9:30 am to be run the same day.

Sample drop-off is in 3137 Agricultural and Life Sciences (ALS) Building, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00pm.

We offer three basic types of sequencing services -- premium, standard and economy. Please note that our economy service means that the customer has performed the cycle sequencing reaction. A discount is available for economy and standard submissions when many samples are submitted in the appropriate plate and sample orientation (see below).

Premium, Standard Sequencing and Standard Plate Sequencing

With premium and standard sequencing, the Core Lab performs the cycle sequencing reaction, cleans and runs the samples on the DNA sequencer. Price is fixed.  Data guaranteed the next business day for Premium sample submissions, and there may be a one- to two-day delay in processing standard sequencing if less than 35 are ordered.  There is a discount for Standard Plate orders and price depends on the number of samples submitted.  To qualify for a standard plate discount, at least 47 samples must be submitted at once in a specific format.

Economy and Economy Plate Sequencing

With economy sequencing, the customer performs the cycle sequencing reaction. The Core Lab cleans and runs the samples on the DNA sequencer. Price is fixed.  A further discount is available for larger orders (48 or more) provided in the correct plate and orientation. 

  • For 48 or less samples, place the samples in alternating columns (i.e. 1,3,5,7,9,11 or 2,4,6,8,10,12).  For plate orders of more than 48 samples, place samples in consecutive columns (i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc). Match the well and the sample information in the csv file.  A 96 well semi-skirted plate that is compatible with ABI 3730 machines (e.g. ABI #N801-0560; Bioexpress #T-3085-1; Phenix MSP-3590) is required for all plate orders.  Label the plate with the Order Number.
